June 24, Gay Pride festivities splintered once again.....
Here we are, another year gone by, and we have one
pride fest here, another one there. Would there be any pride in having a unified effort. If we can't get along
with ourselves, how can we expect anybody else to get along with any of us? How is anybody gonna see how many of us
there are if we can't all get together? We should take those egos, put them on the shelf, sit down all together and
get a real PRIDE DAY next year-- that includes everybody. And we should start now....... or maybe yesterday.

June 3, Ryan White Reauthorization Update
On May 24, the E&C Committee held a Ryan White stakeholder meeting that gave Members of the Committee
an opportunity to make statements regarding the bill content and ask clarifying questions of stakeholders related to their
concerns. Members participating included Nathan Deal (R-GA), Fred Upton (R-MI), John Shimkus (R-IL), Joe Pitts
(R-PA), Mary Bono (R-CA), Mike Ferguson (R-NJ), Michael Burgess (R-TX), Vito Fossella (R-NY), Henry Waxman (D-CA), Ed Towns

Engel (D-NY), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Hilda Solis (D-CA), and Charlie Gonzalez (D-TX). Concerns raised included the deleterious
impact on funding to states that are not eligible for the .9 HIV proxy; missing elements of the definition of core medical
services including food, nutrition counseling, community-based case management, and transitional housing; the severity of
need index; sufficient resources for ADAP; EMA boundaries; flat funding of Title IV and the Minority AIDS Initiative;
and the end of hold harmless after three years.
Texas PWA Campout Weekend, May 19-21, 2006
This article was published on the SIN-DallasFtWorth website, Mar 19, 2006...............
For 10 years in the spring and fall, the PWA Holiday Charities sponsors the Lady Victory Lust/PWA Campout for gay HIV+
men. It runs from from about Friday noon to Sunday noon. Most gay men do not "rough it" at least when it comes to camping
and this is no exception. There is more camp then camping. Meals, snacks and drinks are provided along with campsite,
toilets, hot/cold water showers and electricity. The Texas PWA Campout is what you make of it.
Located in the center of the DFW/Houston/San Antonio triangle, the Texas Conference of Clubs
hosts the PWA Campout. They operates a the private 35-plus acre campground in central Texas. The
conference is composed of GLBT member clubs, community organizations and independent members throughout Texas. There is a
variety of "runs" held on weekends throughout the year.
Most guys sleep in tents and bring all the comforts of home with them. Some tents and air
mattresses are on hand, so ask. A bunkhouse is available to those with special physical needs. The campers are very friendly
and socializing, cruising and hiking are some but not all of the favorite activities. Alcohol is allowed. Beer is included
with various groups holding cocktail parties at various times of the day. Clothing is optional and fun is encouraged. The
highlight of the weekend is the Saturday night show known throughout Texas as the "best drag show in Cameron" however Cameron
has the ugliest women in Texas. There are just limits to what makeup and alcohol can do. The most important of the few rules
is "What happens in Cameron, stays in Cameron".
The cost of the PWA Campout is $25. The cost can be waved if it would causes a financial hardship.
No membership is required and HIV- lovers are welcome to attend. You will need to arrange your own transportation. An application
can be found on the TCC web site. Send it in as soon as possible because space is limited. There are about 100+ guys from
Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and the rest of Texas. Additional information is at the TCC web site
or will be provided with confirmation of your reservation.

SAAF told me they could not help me because I had medical insurance, although I had lost my job and
my insurance was on COBRA. I later found out that I could get help with paying the COBRA. The SAAF people would
not tell me this. They did not even send me anywhere to get help.
Don Rodriguez, Planning Council Co-Chair, January
23, 2006
Reply to James regarding Adjunctive Therapy (Psychosocial Support Services AKA Massage
and Acupuncture) contracted with San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF). Because the health
of our community is our number one concern: We, The San Antonio Area HIV Planning Council had to make a hard decision January
17, 2006. We believed our community would be better served by reallocating un-spent Ryan White Title One funds to both our
(Out Patient) medical services and drug reimbursement programs. Please understand the Planning Council did not close the doors
on adjunctive therapy. The SAAF chose to request from the Administrative Agency (AA/Bexar County) to reallocate those funds
to their Skilled Nursing / Hospice Programs because they themselves were facing a budget shortage. The AA has the authority
to move a limited amount of funds without Planning Council approval, especially if it is within an agency.
In the future, the Planning Council and our community may be faced with having to make similar decisions
such as this, not only because HIV infections are still on the rise and more people are coming into the system seeking medical
care, but also because of our Government (State and Federal) have imposed cuts, not only in Ryan White funding, but across
the board, including Medicare and Medicaid.
I was disappointed to find out that the
adjunctive therapy was cut from services at SAAF. It was done in a very unprofessional way. Most businesses will give a period
of adjustment for their personnel to look for other employment. What SAAF did was cutthroat to both their personnel and their
customers. We need both therapies for our overall well-being. SAAF has now endangered our
health. Someone needs to be held accountable for this gross lack of judgement.
Hope
this note finds you well. Wow, what an exciting thing to watch ya'll develop the
super resource for others. It's helping others find the 'path' through a lot of confusing stuff. Keep up the great
work.
After rushing all over town to go to the different World
AIDS Day celebrations I was disgusted that these agencies couldn't get together for a single celebration for everybody. Why
can't we all just get along?????
